Speed Data-ing for Social Care Professionals

6 March 2017

Vic Rayner
Executive Director
The National Care Forum

Where do you think you are in the data race? Are you on the money in sweating your data assets, or do you have more work to do? Are you making your data go the extra mile, or are you letting it languish in the starting blocks? You get the picture? Almost without fail, every member I have visited in my first few months at NCF has wanted to discuss the potential of the data that they hold within their services, but not yet felt that they have it in readily accessible form, or know enough about what it is that they and others might do with that data.

At the other end of the spectrum, I have been spending time with software developers who are absolutely bowled over by the level and quality of data collected within the sector – but frustrated that because of how it is stored and managed within organisations (often still on paper) – it is not being actively utilised to facilitate change.

In response to this NCF, and Kareinn are inviting colleagues from across the care sector to spend the 22nd March with us – be ready to be inspired, excited and energised by specialists from outside and within social care to explore the potential of data.

We have IBM Watson– helping us get our head around how they have harnessed the power of ‘data on steroids’. Digital Catapult, the UK technology incubator, reflecting on learning to date and why they are now focusing on the health and social care sector as an area where they can make the greatest impact, to increase productivity, efficiency and scale.
In addition, we have brought together some fascinating practitioners and software originators pushing the boundaries across health and social care including:

Evalucom - managing the data collection of over 200 nursing homes across a consortia of GPs. Providing benchmarking for providers and commissioners across London.
Home from Home, who have developed their own data system to drive forward service improvements across their learning disability provision,
Kent, Surrey and Sussex Living Lab bringing to life the ‘test beds’ vision in Five Year Forward View. Hosting innovative healthcare organisations harnessing technology to address complexity in healthcare.

You will also have the opportunity to work through taking the inspiration to the implementation table – working with peers and experts to identify next steps for you and the wider social care sector. The full programme for the event can be found here

Finally, if all of this was not enough to entice you, you will be greeted in the inspiring settings of Digital Catapult high rise offices – by Miro – the famed social care robotic dog – and Pepper the emotional robot. Sold it for me! Speed data-ing, here I come…
