Top tips: how to keep you and your workforce cool and hydrated

30 July 2018

My Home Life reminds you that you're important too!

Care home managers have shared with the organisation their TOP TIPs on how to keep you and your workforce cool and hydrated.

Regular breaks

Although sometimes difficult to facilitate due to staffing numbers, during this hot weather it's important to allow yourself and staff access to shorter more regular breaks to cool off.

Hydration stations

Many care homes already provide hydration stations throughout their service.  These are usually in place for residents however, during this intense heat it could also be used by both staff and relatives.

Working in a care home can be hot sticky work. One care home in Essex offers staff access to showers before and after shifts.

Ask your staff what they need...

Why not ask your staff what they might like to help them keep cool and hydrated this summer. A manager from Suffolk asked their workforce what would help, carers asked for a fan be placed in their staff room. The request was granted and as a results, staff felt heard, happier and cooler.
