Playing chess and school children bring cheer to Cornwall Care

6 August 2018

Two residents from Cornwall Care Woodland House recently visited Carclaze School to receive beautiful planter boxes children in Year 1 had grown for the care home's garden.

This follows links made with the school over the past year.

Residents were welcomed with tea and delicious biscuits, and all enjoyed hearing the children sing and read pieces of their work.

Cornwall care has also been seeing more intergenerational activity at Mountford.

One of its newer residents at Mountford, John loves to stretch his mind and chess is the perfect game to do just that.  John regularly enjoys a challenging game of chess with young players.

Research shows that older people who play brain-stretching games like chess are less likely to develop dementia. The brain works like a muscle; it needs exercise like any other muscle to be healthy and ward off injury. Playing chess also develops creativity by activating the right side of your brain and can also raise your IQ.
