NCF welcomes the future funding of supported housing announcement

10 August 2018

The National Care Forum welcomes the critical government announcement relating to the future funding of supported housing. The government’s decision to maintain Housing Benefit for all supported housing, and drop it’s proposals for Sheltered Rent are hugely important.

Vic Rayner says of the announcement;

“This key announcement on the future funding of supported housing is very welcome, and will bring a level of certainty and confidence to the supported housing sector. The provision of purpose built, quality housing for older people, and people with disabilities is a key priority for many NCF members, and this decision will provide some much needed stability after nearly three years of consultation.”

Vic goes on to say:

“The willingness of government to listen to concerns from providers about the immediate and future impact of this reform is positive, however, the length of time to reach this decision has had a damaging impact on the confidence of the sector at a time when we know that ensuring a long term response to the future housing and care requirements of our society is key.”

In thinking about the future implications of this announcement Vic says:

“Now that it is clear how supported housing will be funded in the future, it becomes ever more urgent that the government tackles the long term funding requirements of care and support. The Autumn announcements on care and health offer a unique opportunity to provide a blueprint for communities which recognises the integration of care, health and housing – it must not be missed.”
